EXTERNAL VIEW OF MANDIBLE


EXTERNAL VIEW OF MANDIBLE 

1-CORONOID PROCESS ;-

 There are two main process in external view one is coronoid and one is condylar .
coronoid has pointed or angled end as compare to condylar .

ATTACHMENTS;-

This has the attachments of temporalis muscle 

CONDYLAR PROCESS

It consist of Head and neck .Head articulate with temporal bone and in the neck there is depression that is pterygoid fovea 

ATTACHMENTS 

Pterygoid fovea of condylar process has the attachment of Lateral pterygoid muscle (muscle of mastication)

 LATERAL SURFACE OF RAMUS 

There is the attachment of masseter muscle that  is one of the muscle of mastication .

OBLIQUE LINE :-

It covers the lower molars .It has the attachments of buccinator muscle 

MENTAL FORAMEN:-

It is present in between the Ist and 2nd premolars .From this terminal branch of inferior alveolar nerve that is mental nerve pass through this 

 BELOW THE MENTAL FORAMEN AND WHERE THE OBLIQUE LINE ENDS :-

There we have attachments of two muscles 
1-Depressor anguli oris
2-Depressor labii inferiors muscle 

BASE OF MANDIBLE:-

There is the placement  of platysma muscle .
